• Hit with a flat implement
• Sound of a hard hit?
• Big hit
• Hit with a magazine, say
• Hit edges of hedgerow during approach
• Hit seen at No.1 among the hits which are considered key
• Slap the bonkers (not their bottoms!)
• Beat time with mediocre snares
• Strike using something flat
