• Unfeeling male absorbed in the nitty-gritty
• Unable to move, caught in a broken umbrella
• Novocain-treated
• Asleep, in a way
• Married in centre, feeling nothing
• Shell-shocked
• Like cold, cold fingers
• Like an arm that's been slept on too long
