Possible Clues:

• Insect with limbs raised as if in prayer
• Insect's partner? Afterwards it's defunct!
• Many an insect is this insect's prey
• Insect that eats its mate
• It's himself that's praying (or preying) so it is
• A praying . . . . . . is a kind of grasshopper
• Large insect (sometimes praying?)
• He might sit back while praying
• It's himself, so it is, that's doing the praying - or the preying?
• It appears to be praying but is more likely preying
